OFFICERS
Honorable Aida Alvarez, Chair
As former Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), Ms. Alvarez was the first Hispanic woman to serve in a President's Cabinet. During her tenure, the number of SBA guaranteed loans to minority-owned businesses tripled and to women-owned businesses, doubled. Ms. Alvarez created the Office of Federal Housing Agency Oversight (OFHEO), the federal agency responsible for financial supervision and oversight of the trillion dollar secondary mortgage market (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mae). Prior to that, she was an investment banker with First Boston and Bear Stearns. Aida Alvarez was an award-winning journalist for The New York Post and Metromedia Television (now Fox TV). She currently serves on the boards of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, Union BanCal Corporation, Wal-Mart, and the Diversity Advisory Board for Deloitte & Touche USA LLP.
Honorable Arabella Martinez, Vice-Chair
Ms. Martinez is the former CEO of The Unity Council in Oakland, Ca. who developed the nationally recognized, $100 million Fruitvale Village, a model of sustainable neighborhood revitalization. President Jimmy Carter appointed her Assistant Secretary for the Office of Human Development Services, U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, the first Latina appointed to a sub-cabinet level position in the history of the nation. She has served on the boards of the National Council of La Raza, Development Fund, CA Cultural & Historical Endowment, and the Advisory Councils for Citibank (CA/Nevada) and State Farm Bank. Ms. Martinez is the recipient of the San Francisco Foundation's Community Leadership Award, the Mike Sviridoff/LISC Leadership Award, the San Francisco Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Latino Business Leadership Award, the University of California Alumni Association Achievement in Excellence Award, and the Alameda County Board of Supervisors Women's Hall of Fame. She received her MA in social work and BA from the University of California at Berkeley.
Ana Lopez, Secretary
Ana Lopez has 19 years of experience in new market entry, global market expansion and strategic planning in the financial services industry, with a particular focus on Latin America and the US Hispanic market. She joined Wells Fargo in 2006 as Senior Vice President & Strategic Planning Manager to lead the development of multicultural business and marketing strategies, with emphasis on the key US Hispanic market. Ms. Lopez was Senior Vice President & Hispanic Savings Segment Manager at Bank of America prior to joining Wells Fargo, responsible for managing the P&L of the Hispanic savings business (over $16B in deposits) and developing product, process, sales and marketing strategies. Prior to the merger with Bank of America in 2004, Ms. Lopez was Senior Vice President & Director of Multicultural Segments with FleetBoston Financial, leading the overall strategy for multicultural markets. In that capacity, she drove customized product development, channel enhancements and marketing programs, and launched Fleet's Spanish language web site (December 2002). Prior to joining Fleet, Ms. Lopez was involved in launching Soloella.com, a new media start-up targeting women in the US Hispanic market, Latin America and Spain. From 1993-1997, she was a Vice President and key member of a team at Paribas Capital Markets responsible for starting up the Latin American investment banking business, focusing on debt and equity capital raising throughout the region. In the nonprofit sector, Ms. Lopez has served as Vice President of the Board of Directors of The Women's Institute for Housing and Economic Development in Boston, an organization dedicated to developing affordable housing and fostering economic security for low income women and their families. Ms. Lopez holds a BA in political science and MBA in finance and international business from Columbia University, where she was appointed an International Fellow and Managing Editor of the Columbia Journal of World Business. She also holds a JD in international law and MS in international affairs from Georgetown University. She was admitted to the Bar in New York.
Monica Pressley, Treasurer
Ms. Pressley is the Chief Financial Officer for The San Francisco Foundation and has deep experience in finance and accounting, information systems, budget administration, and strategic planning, in addition to a strong background in financial planning and investment services. She previously served as a chief administrative officer for Barclays Global Investors, director of finance for Dividend Development Corporation, and as a consultant for Charles Schwab & Co. Through her affiliation with Harvard Community Partners, she has completed consulting projects for Bay Area nonprofits including Haight Ashbury Free Clinics, Enterprise for High School Students, and Global Aids Interfaith Alliance. Ms. Pressley received the 2001-2002 Jim Stocker Award for Volunteer Excellence for consulting work done over the past ten years as a member of Harvard Community Partners. She holds an MBA from the Harvard Business School, graduated summa cum laude and a BA in Economics from the University of California Los Angeles.

Angel V. Chavez
Mr. Chavez is an Assistant Vice President, Certified Financial Manager (CFM) and Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) in the San Francisco, California office of Merrill Lynch. He leads a senior team at Merrill Lynch with more than 30 years of combined wealth management, lending and private banking experience. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch he worked as a Vice President and Portfolio Manager at a large Private Bank and also a boutique investment management firm. He has managed assets for endowments, foundations, and individuals, and is dedicated to providing clients with a disciplined wealth management experience. He holds a Bachelor's of Science degree in International Business and Finance from San Francisco State University, received his MBA with a concentration of Finance from Golden Gate University, and earned his CIMA designation at the University of California Berkeley Haas School of Business. He is an active Board member of the Latino Community Foundation, past Board member of the Greater San Jose Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, advisor to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer. More recently, he was selected to serve on a selection committee for The United States-Mexico Foundation for the Advancement of Science. Angel has also lectured for the portfolio management class at the University of San Francisco MBA program. Angel resides in the East Bay with his wife, son and daughter, and enjoys the outdoors.
Maria E. Gallo
Ms. Gallo is Senior Vice President and manager for Union Bank of California's Diverse Markets Administration. With twenty-six years in the banking industry, Ms. Gallo is a seasoned executive with a solid reputation in all major aspects of retail and small-business banking. Currently she is responsible for developing and managing various initiatives and community programs that deliver the bank's products and services to ethnic communities throughout Union Bank's customer base. Ms. Gallo is also in charge of expanding the Bank's strong record of client diversity efforts and community outreach in Northern and Southern California. In recognition of her leadership on behalf of Latinas, she received an award from the California Latino Civil Rights Network in 1998, Mission Language and Vocational School and Hispanas Organized for Political Equality in 2001. She's presently a board member of the Marcus A. Foster Educational Institute and California Economic Development Lending Initiative. In the past, she served as a board member and President of the Chicana/Latina Foundation, Alumni Resources and the Unity Council and volunteered with the Hispanic Community Foundation and Mission Girls Service in San Francisco. Ms. Gallo received her BA from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and an MBA from the University of Southern California.
Marcela Medina
Ms. Medina is Vice President and General Manager of Univision 14 - KDTV and TeleFutura 66-KFSF, both of which are Univision Communications, Inc. owned and operated full-power Spanish-language television stations serving the San Francisco / Oakland / San Jose market. Univision Communications Inc. is the premier Spanish-language media company in the United States whose operations include Univision Network, the most-watched Spanish-language broadcast television network in the U.S., TeleFutura network, Galavision cable, Univision Radio, Univision Television Group, TeleFutura Television Group, Univision Music Group which includes Univision Records and Univision Online, the premier Spanish-language online destination in the United States. Ms. Medina has acquired more than 27 years of experience in the broadcasting and entertainment industries, which include work in the U.S. Hispanic market and broadcast industry, the U.S. English-speaking broadcasting industry and the cable industry. Over the years, Ms. Medina has garnered a well-earned reputation for serving the communities in which she works. Ms. Medina serves as Trustee on the Board of Directors for the San Francisco Foundations and on the Board of Governors for the Commonwealth Club of California. Ms. Medina has also served on the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and the Northern California Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, among others. She received her College of Letters at Wesleyan University and BA with Honors in Communications from New York University.
Aureliano Ruben Rodriguez
Mr. Rodriguez is Vice President of Development at the United Way of the Bay Area. He manages the financial portfolio and has been with United Way for 17 years. He is the director of OLIN de Contra Costa, a Mexican folk-dancing group for children and young people for the past 18 years. He has served as the Chair of the Diocesan Pastoral Council for the Diocese of Oakland, is member of the Asociacion Nacional de Grupos Folkloricos and is actively involved with his parish community of St. Peter Martyr of Verona in Pittsburg. Most recently he received the Youth Supporter Award from CCISCO (Contra Costa Interfaith Supporting Community Organization).
Serra Butler Simbeck
Ms. Simbeck was recently appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Latino Community Foundation. Prior to her appointment she directed the Corporate Partners Program at the Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University. She spent over five years in Mexico City first directing the Mexican Investment Board projects related to Asia and textile/apparel projects and then leading the Morelos Investment Board, which included the Nustart Textile City project that created 5,000 new jobs and a $70 million investment for the state of Morelos. Ms. Butler Simbeck is a native of San Francisco. She received her BA in Government from Harvard University and MA in Latin American Studies from Stanford University. She lives in Portola Valley with her husband and three sons.

Raquel F. Donoso, Executive Director
Ms.Donoso is an accomplished community and public policy leader with over a decade of policy advocacy experience at the state and regional level. She has devoted her career to policy issues affecting women and families. Prior to joining LCF she served as the Associate Director of Latino Issues Forum, a statewide policy and advocacy organization. At the Latino Issues Forum she championed campaigns to increase health access, improve environmental conditions and address education equity in the Latino community. She also authored four publications, including pioneering primary research on reproductive health issues. Ms. Donoso is the Co-Founder and Board Chair of California Latinas for Reproductive Justice, a statewide reproductive health rights coalition. She serves on the boards of the East Bay Regional Parks Foundation and the RYSE Center, a Richmond-based youth center chaired by Contra Costa Supervisor John Gioia. In 2006, Ms. Donoso was appointed to the California Department of Health Services Women's Health Advisory Council by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Ms. Donoso holds a Master's degree in public health and an undergraduate degree in Anthropology both from the University of California Los Angeles. She lives with her husband and son in Richmond, California.
Gary A. Hernandez, Legal Counsel
Mr. Hernandez is a partner with Sonnenschein Nath and Rosenthal, an international law firm with over 500 attorneys worldwide. Mr. Hernandez specializes in regulatory and administrative law. Before entering private practice, Mr. Hernandez served as Deputy Commissioner and Chief of Enforcement at the California Department of Insurance and as a San Francisco Deputy City Attorney. He was named a "California Attorney of the Year" by California Lawyer magazine and a "Latino Business Leader" by the San Francisco Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the San Francisco Business Times, October 2005. Mr. Hernandez currently serves on the board of the California Coastal Conservancy and is a trustee with the University of California at Merced Foundation. He received his BA from the University of California, Berkeley and law degree from the University of California, Davis.
Sandra R. Hernandez, M.D.
Dr. Hernandez is Chief Executive Officer of The San Francisco Foundation. Prior to becoming CEO for the Foundation, she served as the Director of Public Health for the City and County of San Francisco. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSF School of Medicine and maintains an active clinical practice at San Francisco General Hospital in the AIDS clinic. Dr. Hernandez is a graduate of Yale University, Tufts School of Medicine, and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. Sandra Hernandez, MD, is an ex-officio member of the Latino Community Foundation board.

Our nation's future and our legacy are our Latino children and youth. Our strategic investment, the LCF Children and Youth Initiative, places families at the center of community change and emphasizes enhancing health and educational outcomes for Latino children from conception to age five.
