Latino Community Foundation Issues Request for Proposals (RFP) for Latino Children and Youth Initiative

The Latino Community Foundation will engage Latino-led organizations, corporations, foundations, other private organizations, and government institutions in a collaborative effort to address the critical issues facing our young families with children ages 0-5. To that end, we have launched the Latino Children and Youth Initiative. Our goal is to raise and award $1 million in grants over four years, beginning in 2008 to a collaboration of Latino-based, youth serving, nonprofit organizations in the greater Bay Area. The grants will recognize and support the work of Latino not-for-profit organizations as they collaborate to serve Latino children and youth. Read more about the RFP process on the Youth Initiative page.

Latino Community Foundation Announces Appointment of New Executive Director, Raquel F. Donoso

On August 1, 2007 the Board of Directors of the Latino Community Foundation announced the appointment of its new executive director, Raquel F. Donoso.

Ms. Donoso joins the Latino Community Foundation (LCF) at an exciting time in the growth and development of the foundation. Her experience, working on issues affecting women and families, make her especially suited to lead the newly launched LCF Latino Children and Youth Initiative. The Initiative will strengthen organizations serving this most vulnerable and promising population in the Bay Area.

In addition to implementing the Initiative, Ms. Donoso will lead LCF'S annual individual donor campaign, with an exciting focus on young Latino professionals.

Ms. Donoso was most recently the Associate Director of the Latino Issues Forum, a statewide policy and advocacy organization. At LIF, she initiated new corporate and donor development work and expanded the funding portfolio of the organization. She also oversaw all programmatic, communications, and policy decisions for the health, environment, civic engagement and education focus areas.

She is an accomplished public policy and community leader with over a decade of experience at the state and regional level. Her regional work includes being active with several committees in Oakland and serving on the board of directors of the East Bay Regional Parks Foundation. In addition, in 2003 she co-founded California Latinas for Reproductive Justice, a statewide women's advocacy organization.

She is a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles where she earned both her undergraduate degree in Anthropology and her Masters in Public Health. She currently lives in Richmond with her husband and son.
