Aida Alvarez

As head of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), The Honorable Aída Álvarez was the first Hispanic woman to serve in a President's Cabinet. During her tenure, the number of SBA guaranteed loans to minority-owned businesses tripled and to women-owned businesses, doubled. Ms Álvarez created the Office of Federal Housing Agency Oversight (OFHEO), the federal agency responsible for financial supervision and oversight of the trillion dollar secondary mortgage market (Fannie Mae and Freddie Mae). Prior to that, she was an investment banker with First Boston and Bear Stearns. Aída Álvarez was an award-winning journalist for The New York Post and Metromedia Television (now Fox TV). Community Service & Board Affiliation: currrently serves on Harvard Board of Overseers, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, and the Coalition for Supportive Housing.

Raquel F. Donoso

Raquel F. Donoso is the newly appointed Executive Director of the Latino Community Foundation, whose purpose is to develop the philanthropic capacity of the Latino community and support community initiatives specific to their needs. Prior to LCF she served as the Associate Director of Latino Issues Forum (LIF). LIF is a statewide public policy and advocacy institute. At LIF, Ms. Donoso initiated new corporate and donor development and expanded the funding portfolio of the organization. Ms. Donoso serves on the Board of Directors for the East Bay Regional Parks Foundation. She chairs the board of California Latinas for Reproductive Justice (CLRJ), a statewide reproductive health rights coalition. She holds a Master's degree in public health and undergraduate degree from UCLA.

Angel Chavez currently leads a senior team at Merrill Lynch with more than 75 years of combined wealth management, lending and private banking experience. He has managed significant assets for endowments, foundations, and high net-worth individuals under both a large private bank and a boutique, investment management firm. Community Service & Board Affiliation: currently serves as board member of the Greater San Jose Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Hispanic Association of Realtors and Affiliates, advisor to the Susan G. Kormen Foundation for Breast Cancer, and more recently, he serves on a selection committee for The United States-Mexico Foundation for the Advancement of Science. Education: MBA Finance, Golden Gate University; Bachelor's of Science degree in International Business and Finance, San Francisco State University; Certified Financial Manager (CFM) and Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA), UC Berkeley Haas School of Business for Executive Development.

Ms. Gallo is senior vice president and manager for Union Bank of California's Diverse Markets Administration. With twenty-six years in the banking industry, Maria Gallo is a seasoned executive with a solid reputation in all major aspects of retail and small-business banking. Currently she is responsible for developing and managing various initiatives and community programs that deliver the bank's products and services to ethnic communities throughout Union Bank's customer base. Ms. Gallo is also in charge of expanding the Bank's strong record of client diversity efforts and community outreach in Northern and Southern California. In recognition of her leadership on behalf of Latinas, Ms. Gallo received an award from the California Latino Civil Rights Network in 1998, Mission Language and Vocational School and Hispanas Organized for Political Equality in 2001. She's presently a board member of the Marcus A. Foster Educational Institute and California Economic Development Lending Initiative. In the past, she served as a board member and President of the Chicana/Latina Foundation, Alumni Resources and the Unity Council and volunteered with the Hispanic Community Foundation and Mission Girls Service in San Francisco. Ms. Gallo received her BA from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and an MBA from the University of Southern California.

Gary Hernández is a partner with Sonnenschein Nath and Rosenthal, an international law firm with over 500 attorneys worldwide. Gary specializes in regulatory and administrative law. Before entering private practice, Mr. Hernández served as Deputy Commissioner and Chief of Enforcement at the California Department of Insurance and as a San Francisco Deputy City Attorney. Honors & Awards: He was named a "California Attorney of the Year" by California Lawyer magazine and a "Latino Business Leader" by the San Francisco Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the San Francisco Business Times, October 2005. Community Service & Board Affiliation: currently serves on the board of the California Coastal Conservancy and is a trustee with the University of California at Merced Foundation. Education: University of California, Berkeley and law degree, University of California, Davis.

Sandra R. Hernández, MD, is Chief Executive Officer of The San Francisco Foundation. Prior to becoming CEO for the Foundation, she served as the Director of Public Health for the City and County of San Francisco. She is an Assistant Clinical Professor at UCSF School of Medicine and maintains an active clinical practice at San Francisco General Hospital in the AIDS clinic. Education: graduate of Yale University, Tufts School of Medicine, and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University

Arabella Martinez is the former CEO of The Unity Council in Oakland, Ca. who developed the nationally recognized, $100 million Fruitvale Village, a model of sustainable neighborhood revitalization. President Jimmy Carter appointed her Assistant Secretary for the Office of Human Development Services, U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare, the first Latina appointed to a sub-cabinet level position in the history of the nation. Community Service & Board Affiliation: Boards of Directors for the National Council of La Raza, Raza Development Fund, CA Cultural & Historical Endowment, and the Advisory Councils for Citibank (CA/Nevada) and State Farm Bank. Honors and Awards ( 2005 only): Community Leadership Award - San Francisco Foundation, Mike Sviridoff/LISC Leadership Award; Latino Business Leadership Award - The San Francisco Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the San Francisco Business Times and Wells Fargo; Achievement in Excellence Award - University of California Berkeley Alumni Association and Women's Hall of Fame - Alameda County Board of Supervisors. Marcela Medina is Vice President and General Manager of Univision 14 - KDTV and TeleFutura 66-KFSF, both of which are Univision Communications, Inc. owned and operated full-power Spanish-language television stations serving the San Francisco / Oakland / San Jose market. Univision Communications Inc. is the premier Spanish-language media company in the United States whose operations include Univision Network, the most-watched Spanish-language broadcast television network in the U.S., TeleFutura network, Galavision cable, Univision Radio, Univision Television Group, TeleFutura Television Group, Univision Music Group which includes Univision Records and Univision Online, the premier Spanish-language online destination in the United States.

Ms. Medina has acquired more than 27 years of experience in the broadcasting and entertainment industries, which include work in the U.S. Hispanic market and broadcast industry, the U.S. English-speaking broadcasting industry and the cable industry.

Over the years, Ms. Medina has garnered a well-earned reputation for serving the communities in which she works. Ms. Medina serves as Trustee on the Board of Directors for the San Francisco Foundations and on the Board of Governors for the Commonwealth Club of California. Ms. Medina has also served on the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) and the Northern California Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, among others. Hugo Morales

Hugo Morales

Hugo Morales is the executive director and a founder of Radio Bilingue, Inc., the National Latino Public Radio Network. It provides service in Spanish, English and Mixteco (an indigenous Native American language in Mexico). Mr. Morales is a Mixtec Indian from Oaxaca, Mexico. He was raised in Oaxaca until the age of nine when his family immigrated to California. He grew up as a farm worker in Sonoma County until he graduated in 1968 from Healdsburg High School where he had been elected student body president. He then went on to graduate from Harvard College and Harvard Law School. In 1994, he became the first resident of the San Joaquin Valley to be a recipient of a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship. Also in May 1999, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting honored Mr. Morales with the Edward R. Murrow Award, public radio's highest distinction.

Some of Mr. Morales' board memberships include the following: Central California Legal Services; California Tomorrow; Fresno Arts Council Folk Arts Program Advisory Committee; The Appleseed Foundation - a national coalition for alternative legal services for the poor; and The California Wellness Foundation Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative Advisory Panel.

In 1999, Mr. Morales began serving on the Accrediting Commission for Senior Colleges and Universities of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). In 2002, he was appointed to the boards of the Rosenberg Foundation and The San Francisco Foundation. He has also served on several funding panels for the following organizations: The California Arts Council Arts Program; The National Endowment for the Arts; The Fresno Arts Council.

Monica Pressley has deep experience in finance and accounting, information systems, budget administration, and strategic planning, in addition to a strong background in financial planning and investment services. She previously served as a chief administrative officer for Barclays Global Investors, director of finance for Dividend Development Corporation, and as a consultant for Charles Schwab & Co. Community Service: Through her affiliation with Harvard Community Partners, she has completed consulting projects for Bay Area nonprofits including Haight Ashbury Free Clinics, Enterprise for High School Students, and Global Aids Interfaith Alliance. Honors & Awards: received the 2001-2002 Jim Stocker Award for Volunteer Excellence for consulting work done over the past ten years as a member of Harvard Community Partners. Education: MBA, Harvard Business School; graduated summa cum laude, BA in Economics, UCLA.

Isabel Valdés

Isabel Valdés is a recognized pioneer in Hispanic marketing and founder of the in-culture movement. For more than 20 years, Ms. Valdés has conducted marketing research with unique culturally sensitive methods and state-of-the-art-techniques. Recently, Ms. Valdés founded Isabel Valdés Consulting to advise clients on a broad range of business-related issues in global and in-culture marketing. Honors & Awards: She has received numerous honors that include selection by Fortune Small Business in 2001, as a "Woman Entrepreneur Star," and Business Woman of the Year by the New York Hispanic Chambers of Commerce in 1995. In March 2000, she was named by American Demographics magazine as the "21st Century Star of Multicultural Research." In October 2005, Ms. Valdés was recognized as a "Latino Business Leader" along with 26 of the most influential Hispanic leaders in the Bay Area by the San Francisco Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the San Francisco Business Times. Community Service & Board Affiliation: a member of PepsiCo/Frito-Lay's Latino Advisory Board and the Advisory Board of Scholastic, Lee y Serás; Accion USA's board of directors, a micro-lending institution; and the advisory board for Consumer Trends Forum International. She is an active board member in the (NCLR) National Council of la Raza, and the National Hispana Leadership Institute. Education: M.A. in Communications and an MA in Education from Stanford University. She also holds professional degrees in Communications and Communications Arts and Advertising from two leading universities in South America.
